My journal is -- for me -- pretty apolitical. So I'll just raise a tiny bit of whoopee here for what happened Wednesday night. If Bush doesn't pull a Lucy here and pull the ball away just as Charlie Brown tries to kick -- and he's said he won't, for all his word is worth -- we will have a ban on soft money.

Us lib'rals would much rather have public financing of campaigns; bribery becomes a tad bit more difficult when your target doesn't have to spend his time whoring for money (and there aren't any constitutional issues, like some people might try to raise with this one). But half a loaf beats what we have now.

And if Bush signs the bill I will sing his praises. For a day.
