Mar. 29th, 2003 09:07 pmAn article by the editor of the New Yorker was just reprinted in The Guardian, which for those of you who don't know is an unabashedly liberal British paper and, like most overseas news resources, much much better than ours.
Tony Blair has replaced Colin Powell as the sole grown-up in the pro-war faction, Powell having conducted his fire sale on personal ethics in the past month.
"If we're an arrogant nation, they'll resent us." It is hard to imagine, even by the standards of 'well, politicians are all liars', that those words came out of the mouth of W. Then again, just two days ago he said -- out in public, in front of presumed adults -- that 'the coalition today against Iraq is actually bigger than the coalition against Iraq in 1991', and he didn't get laughed out of the room, somehow.
It's informative to note other words that came out of W's mouth during the 2000 campaign -- referring, ironically, to his opponent: 'He just has a problem with the truth'.
