eyelessgameDays like this I have to remind myself that blogs are sometimes wrong, and Washington buzz is sometimes manufactured so that later reality looks better by comparison.

I haven't heard anything about a plan to attack Syria and Iran. It's possible that people could put such things in their blogs just to aggravate their readers and drive interest up. I say this, because my first question on reading something like this is, "Can you show me a link?".
We'll probably end up with the 20K troop surge. But Congress is done at that point. If it doesn't work, I suspect Congress will be using the power of the purse to bring troops home before the year is out. Attacking Syria and Iran is just not going to happen in the current climate.

Date: 2007-01-12 10:54 pm (UTC)As I understand it, we've pretty much committed all the army we have to Iraq plus bits and pieces in Afghanistan and other bothersome spots. In fact, as near as I can tell, the 20,000 additional troops in Iraq are largely coming from not sending soldiers home when they're supposed to. Recruiting high school kids into the armed forces is a lot harder these days than it used to be, for some reason.
